Mary Agnes Chavis Morrison

Mary Agnes Chavis Morrison was the wife of 54 years of Michael K Morrison. She was the 1st born of Herman and Maude Chavis, followed by sister, Martha Sue and brother, Billy Herman.

Although neither was religious, they both attended Memphis’ First Baptist Church to meet men/women. That’s where she met Mike, then a Marine Corps PFC.

Despite her Arkansas/Louisiana upbringing, she adapted well to Mike’s Boston, Yankee origin, his individualism, emotional reservedness and social ineptness.

They had 3 sons; Gregory Kent, Curtis Lee and Richard Shaughn. She did her utmost to show no favoritism for any of her boys.

Starting their family while Mike was in a commissioning program, in Nebraska, they went on to live in 17 different states between them, including such places as: Pensacola, Fla; Daytona Beach, Fla; Quantico, Va; Pasadena, Md; Ogden, Utah; Ft Fairfield, Maine; and finally Idaho City, Id. They were preparing for their “final” move back to Pensacola, where 2 of her 3 boys live, when she passed away.

After having her children, she attended college, ultimately becoming an RN. At home, she perfected her art of pouring ceramics, mostly dolls: painting and firing them, sewing their dresses, etc. -- a craftsman at what was truly her passion.

She was a very kind, loving woman, without a mean bone in her body. She had no hate for any one. She was smart, talented and loved books. People who met her felt they’d always known her.

She and Mike particularly loved living midway between Washington, DC and Baltimore, where such quality entertainment as Broadway musicals, folk music and dance were always available.

She put up with Mike’s caustic sense of humor and his environmentalism/conservationism, living in a 60 degree house all winter long, for example.

She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
