Mary D. Ridder passed away peacefully June 10, 2011 surrounded by her loving family at Willow Park Assisted Living Facility in Boise. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 13, 2011, at 1:00 p.m., at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell.
Mary was born May 15, 1931 in New Castle, Wyoming to Zachary T. and Beulah V. Monroe. Mary was the youngest of four children. She graduated from Caldwell High School in 1949 and then went on to nursing school. She completed her nursing training at St. Alphonsus Hospital in 1952. Mary met and married Thomas A. Ridder in 1952 where they started their family in Boise. This union ended in divorce in 1988. Mary began her nursing career in 1961 at St. Alphonsus Hospital and spent the next 35 years dedicated to caring for her many patients before retiring in 1994. After retiring she volunteered for Hospice of Boise for the next three years.
Mary was an avid reader and loved the challenge of crossword puzzles and various word games and was known among her family as “The Walking Dictionary”, with her passion for the English Language. Most importantly, she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whose relationship grew stronger with her daily devotions. Mary had many life-long friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her mother and father; her son, Steven Ridder; her sister, Elvina Fairbanks; and brother, Wilbur Monroe. She is survived by her sister, Rose Sisk; her four children: Ted Ridder (Ginger) of Denver, CO; Christine Smith, of Boise; Marlene Smitchger, of Boise; and Scott Ridder of Boise. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Myah Ridder, Emily and Ethan Ridder, Kelly and Sarah O’Brien, Ryan and Blake Smitchger, Amanda Swedlund, Michael Ridder and Heather Shrum. In addition, she had three great-grandchildren.
