Mary Lou
McNichols, 84, died Saturday, May30
th
, 2015 after a long battle with
heart disease. Mary Lou was born in Tacoma, WA on February 15, 1931 to Charles
R and Grace M Scidmore. She was raised in Tacoma and graduated from Lincoln High
in 1949.
Mary Lou met the
love of her life, Brad, at a roller skating rink in Tacoma, Washington while he
was stationed with the Army at Fort Lewis. Hugh and Mary Lou were married on
October 6, 1954 and lived briefly in Monterey, CA before moving to Idaho where she
has lived ever since. They had two daughters, Kathryn and Shannon.
After Shannon
was born, when Kathi was 4, she started working at the Albertsons General
Office when it was located in the 2
nd
floor of the original store on
16
th
and State. She continued to work for Albertsons through their
move to the Boise Cascade building in downtown Boise and on to the Corporate
Headquarters on ParkCenter. She retired as a bookkeeper in 1986 after 27 years
with the company.
She loved God, reading,
her two girls and her grandchildren and took fantastic care of the girls and
even all four grandkids when needed. She would get up every morning, iron
dresses for the girls, cook their breakfasts and get them off to school before
she went to work and she never complained. Even though she did not go to school
there, she was a staunch supporter of Boise High School and for many years
would not buy her grandchildren any clothing that was green and yellow.
Once dad retired,
she spent many hours driving the backroads of Idaho with him looking for
wildlife and recording their observations. She and dad also spent many happy
vacations in Lincoln City, Oregon watching the surf and looking for whales.
She was a member
of the Boise Friends Church. She is survived by her daughter Kathi (Gene)
Chapman, grandchildren Christopher Chapman, Stephenie Jarmin and her daughter
Mackenzee, Dustin (Alex) Hohrein and their children Dominic and Abby, and
Patrick (Chanelle) Hohrein and their children Kaine, Shannon, and Brayden. She
is also survived by her sisters Gladys and Patricia as well as three nephews
and four nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband Brad, her parents,
sister Bonnie, a niece, and her youngest daughter Shannon.
A viewing will
be held on Thursday evening, June 4
th
from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the
Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel at 5400 Fairview Avenue. Funeral services will be
on Friday morning, June 5
th
at 10:30 AM at Alden-Waggoner with
burial immediately following at Star Cemetery.
The family would
like to thank First Choice Home Health and Hospice for the great care they
provided the last two months of mom’s life. I would not have been able to do it
without Cynthia, Tess, Jenny and Mike. I have such respect for these amazing
caregivers. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to either the American
Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
