Mary Lucille Harder, loving mother and grandmother, passed away on November 8, 2013 at a local assisted living facility.  A funeral in honor of Mary Lu will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, 5400 Fairview Avenue, Boise, with a viewing from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.  Burial will follow the services in Morris Hill Cemetery.

Born in Aberdeen, Idaho on May 3, 1920, Mary Lu was the youngest child of James T. and Rosamond Brewington.  Her siblings Jessie Edgar and George Brewington preceded her in death.  She continued to live her childhood in the farm home she was born in.

After graduation from Aberdeen High School Mary Lu attended Albion State Normal School and Colorado State College.  Upon receiving her teaching certificate in 1942 she taught first grade in American Falls, Burley, and Twin Falls, Idaho.

Mary Lu married Willard Harder in 1948, and moved to Grand View, Idaho where they began farming and ranching.  While in Grand View, they had three children, Carl, Frank, and Caroline.
In 1961, the family moved to Boise.  Mary Lu attended Boise State College and completed her teaching degree in 1969.  She began teaching in Boise at Roosevelt Elementary and then Koelsch Elementary where she continued to pass her love for reading on to first graders.

Mary Lu was a member of Wright Congregational Church, Alpha Delta Kappa, Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Order of Eastern Star.  Upon retiring she became a volunteer at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center.

The love Mary Lu had for her sons remained strong in her heart after the disappearance of her son Frank in 1978 and the death of her oldest child Carl in 2002.  Surviving family members of Mary Lu include her daughter and son-in-law Caroline and Mike Curry, grandson and his wife Jeremy and Andrea Curry and their daughters Mia and Bridget, and granddaughter Vanessa Corson and her daughter Claire.
