Maryann Herring

MaryAnn Herring, 73, passed away at home on August 1, 2011, from complications of Crohn's disease. She was born on October 22, 1937 in Boise, ID to Floyd and Katherine Marsh.

MaryAnn attended North Junior High and graduated from Boise High in 1956. She met her husband- to -be at North but wasn't interested in him until many years later. Being a sucker for a man in uniform, she took notice of Irvin when he came home on leave from the Navy. In 1958 they eloped and were married in Winnemucca, accompanied by their friends Kitty and Mark. Afraid to tell her mom and dad that she and Irvin had married, MaryAnn returned to her parents’ home for two weeks. When she and Irvin finally did tell her parents, they were not happy and informed them that it would never last. MaryAnn and Irvin celebrated 53 years of marriage on 03/18/2011.

Their first child, Floyd, was born in 1959 and their daughter, DeAnn, in 1961. Irvin had joined the Air Force by that time and the family entered the military life of being transferred and moving every couple of years until Irvin retired and moved the family back to Boise.

MaryAnn became a first time grandmother in 1981. When her grandson, Tyler, FINALLY told her last month that he was getting married, she couldn't have been happier. She of course went into major planning mode for the wedding that will be held in 2012. Sadly, due to her death she won't be there directing the event but she will be with all of us in our hearts. She also became a grandmother in 1984 (Zachary), in 1987 (Samantha), and then in 1993, a step-grandma to Kristi Robb and Tracy Scheets.

MaryAnn worked outside the home but never found her niche until she went to work for the Ada County Sherriff's Department. She relished telling her stories about her employment for many years to come. MaryAnn was a self-proclaimed expert on all legal and medical matters thanks to her years of employment and watching many hours of Judge Judy, Judge Joe Brown and reading The National Enquirer.

MaryAnn was a wonderful mom, wife, grandmother and friend. She always had a great sense of humor and a colorful way with words.

MaryAnn loved to cook, and she was one of the best! Her family always looked forward to her fried chicken, mashed potatoes and homemade gravy! She always had a great appreciation for a good margarita any time of day!

MaryAnn had a deep love for animals which she inherited from her father and passed on to both of her children. There were many events held at the family home where the dogs and cats outnumbered the people.

MaryAnn is survived by her husband Irvin; son, Floyd (Dana) Herring of Nampa, Idaho; daughter, DeAnn (Rich) Robb of Boise, Idaho; grandchildren, Tyler McIntyre, Zachary and Samantha Herring, Tracy (Chris) Scheets of Boise, Idaho and Kristi Robb of Salt Lake, Utah City; great-grandchildren, Rayne Herring, Hailie Scheets, and Lily and Che Robb of Salt Lake City; and last but not least her constant bed companions, dogs, Dolly and Molly and her two cats, Jack and Jill.

She is preceded in death by her parents Floyd and Katherine Marsh, and great-grandson, Tylar Scheets.

No services will be held, but family and friends will gather Saturday night to celebrate MaryAnn’s life.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Simplycats.org or the Idaho Humane Society for the STAR program or Frankie's Friends.

Our family would like to thank mom's best friend Judy Ristick and her wonderful neighbors, Don and Joni Bodine. Her last couple of years were so much better with you in her life. We also would like to express appreciation to the doctors at Boise Kidney for their tremendous support. A personal thank you to my husband Rich Robb for always being there for myself and my family. I am so thankful for you. As for me, her daughter, whenever I bring a stray or unwanted animal home, or have a great margarita, I will always think of my mom.
