Maxine Frances Spurlin Harris was born July 31, 1925. She was born on a 400-acre wheat ranch at Harrisburg, Oregon to Wade and Eva Spurlin. She was a descendant of Oregon pioneers who crossed the plains from Missouri and Virginia in 1857. Maxine was the youngest of four children. She attended Summerville, a one room schoolhouse thru 3rd grade. Later her mother and the children moved into town at Harrisburg following her father's untimely death. Maxine accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at the age of 13 and was baptized in the Willamette River along with her mother and sister Alene.

She graduated from Harrisburg High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Ernie Sittser in 1944. They had four children, Wayne, Glenn, Linda and David. Maxine served in churches wherever they lived, working in the nursery, teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. She loved music and at the age of 13 ironed clothes in exchange for piano lessons. She often sang in choir groups and did solos for weddings and memorial services. Maxine worked and retired from Portland Public School District.

She married Jack Harris in 1975. They enjoyed traveling and visited many places in Canada and the United States. She enjoyed writing poems and stories. Maxine learned to knit and entered garments and flower arrangements in the county fairs, winning various ribbons and awards. She loved and collected hats. Maxine was a member of the East Vancouver Community Church and also supported the Child Evangelism of Warrington Missouri.

In 2013 Maxine moved to Idaho to be closer to her son David and his family. In Idaho she found a love for puzzles, Bingo, camping and taking family vacations to the Oregon beaches. Maxine enjoyed having all the holiday events and family parties and gatherings with her Idaho family. Her son David and daughter-in-law Levi were a great source of help and assistance. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Grace Assisted Living in Meridian, Idaho. She was known as the bell of the ball at Grace for her big smile and great fashion style.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Ernie and Jack, sons Wayne and Glenn, her daughter Linda. Sisters Clarence and Alene and brother William.
