Merold L. Fisher, age 92, died March 29, 2011 at a local nursing home. A long-term Boise resident, Merold was born August 12, 1918 in Danbury, Nebraska to Myrtie (Doud) and James Lester Fisher. The family moved to Boise in 1935 from Nebraska after Merold graduated high school. He enlisted in the US Army Air Force during WWII, was stationed in England and served as a co-pilot and crew member of a B-24 bomber in combat missions over Germany. In 1946, after already having begun a 30 year career with the US Postal Service, Merold married V. Eloise Billiard from Hagerman, Idaho. Merold retired as the Boise Assistant US Postmaster in 1973. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and gardening as long as his health would allow. One of his proudest accomplishments was to have been one of a small group to found the Boise Rescue Mission in 1958. He served on the Boise Rescue Mission Board for many years. He was also active with the annual planning of what came to be known as the Governor’s Prayer Breakfast and was the historian for that planning committee. Merold was also a member of the Gideon’s organization.
Merold was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Floy Johnson. He is survived by his wife Eloise, his son Gregory (Diane), daughter Kellee Nelson, six grandchildren, Jason Ludovic (Brandi), Eric Ludovic (Sarah), Launee Trask (Jake), Jeff Corder, Stephanie Pearson (Ed), Sarah Fisher and three great-grandchildren.
At his request only a private graveside service will be held at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Valley View Life Care Nursing for their compassion and care of our father. We also want to thank Dr. Schell and the staff of St. Luke’s Internal Medicine for the wonderful medical treatment Dad received.
