Michael D. Kyle
1957-2017

Mike Kyle passed away following a stroke on Friday, May 26, surrounded by his friends and family. Born January 16, 1957 to Richard and Elizabeth Kyle in Boise, Idaho, he spent much of his life deeply dedicated to the community and those around him.
Like many Boise boys, Mike led an adventurous childhood, whether it be flying planes with his father, racing cars with his friends, or playing baseball in between his passion for running. Having many cousins in the area, Mike always had someone by his side as he explored the Idaho terrain. He was an avid outdoors guy, rugged and northwestern to the core.
A few years after graduating high school, following various stints at K-Mart and Hewlett Packard, in 1984 he assumed a role at start-up Extended Systems Inc. (ESI) as a manufacturing manager. Surrounded by fellow colleagues in the frenzied startup culture, he developed lifelong friendships and eventually, celebrated bringing the company public.
This excitement was in tandem with marrying Cindy Pelnar in 1987. They had two children, Christopher and Garrett, who, if asked by anyone, were an absolute delight to his life. He raised them with the goal to be strong, intelligent, and steadfast, and most of all, gentle, curious, and kind.
In 1999 Mike was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, which became a significantly defining part of his life. This was certainly due to the limitations and debilitation that accompany the disease, but it also shifted the trajectory of his life’s purpose. Mike quickly joined the local chapter of the MS Society, involving his vast community as he raised funds and awareness through hosting annual MS Walks. He was a confidant and mentor to others also afflicted, and despite his own frustrations, never gave up hope. Mike was a pillar in the community, bright and courageous.
In 1994 Mike assumed a role at Ecco Safety Group (ESG) from which he eventually retired. Several years later he met Diane Boothe, who he partnered with in his final, vibrant chapter of life. They travelled the world together, enjoying the sights and cuisine of cultures unknown to him. This Boise boy became a true globetrotter.
In his lifetime, Mike may have accumulated many successes by traditional standards, but his true legacy can be found in his character – as a man who lived humbly, generously, and with utmost regard for everyone he met. He was a hero in the shadows, an insatiably proud father, and a lover of all good things in life, which made him the sweetest man of all.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Elizabeth Kyle. His survivors include sister Kristine Ryals (Dan) and children Christopher Kyle (Sarah) and Garrett Kyle (Sarah). He will be missed by three lovely nieces, as well.
