Michael Lee Nelson’s spirit left this world on October 5,
2011, at the young age of 60 years old.
Mike was born on May 3, 1951, in St. Alphonsus Hospital, Boise, Idaho to
his parents Ken and Della (Pearson) Nelson, who still reside in Boise today. Mike
had been battling a long term illness and died of natural causes surrounded by
his immediate family and soul mate Theresa Uberauga.
As a young child, Mike attended Garfield Elementary School
and graduated from Boise High School in 1969.
After his graduation, Mike attended Boise State University for 3
years.
He then started his career at
Morrison Knudsen as a welder in the locomotive shop.
After an injury that affected his ability to
weld, MK sent him to BSU.
This started
his professional career in IT.
He became
a Senior Analyst with MK for 17 years, then Micron as a Software Engineer for
12 years until his health started to fail.
In January of 2010 he worked as an ETL Developer with Molina Medicaid
Solutions.
He was fluent in no less than
seven programming languages.
He was the true “Idaho Outdoorsman” as his passions included
upland game bird hunting, fly fishing, hiking, camping, dirt bike riding,
four-wheeling in the Idaho back roads, photography, Jeeps and Corvettes.
Mike was a tremendous musician and loved
playing amplified acoustic guitar and singing, especially his own songs.
He enjoyed dancing, hanging out with his “sea
of friends,” and bicycling.
If there were
any statistics for driving the Idaho back roads, Mike would rival Pete Zimowsky.
He loved to travel the Northwest and visited
France and Switzerland.
He was so
impressed by the beauty of the world.
Mike married Janet (Kincaid) in 1978, had two beautiful sons
together, and divorced in 1992.
Mike and
Jan were committed to keeping the family in tact even though divorced.
Birthdays and holidays were celebrated
together for the children and through this came a lifelong friendship that
included her husband Bill Kelley.
Survivors include, a son Adam (Dianna), and four beautiful
grandchildren Danny, Aubrey, Isabel and Tenley; another son Kevin, both sons
reside in Boise. Mike’s oldest sister Suzanne resides in Northern Idaho.
Mike was a son, spouse, father, “Poppa Mike” to his grand
kids, and a tremendous caring, loving friend.
Over the past 7 years, he purchased 2 different Corvettes.
He loved the Corvette mystique, but then
would not be able to drive on the Idaho back roads, only to buy another
Jeep.
He found it hard to tow an ATV
with the Corvette, and equally as difficult to cruise (with a radar detector)
the Interstates and 2-lane highways in a Rubicon.
In his final few days, the family expresses a sincere thank
you for the care and professionalism of Deanna and Julie with St. Luke’s Hospice.
The family also expresses a most sincere debt
of gratitude for Tracy’s loving gentle care during Mike’s last few days as a live
in health care provider.
All of you have
touched our hearts and Mike would not have been pain free his last few days without
your care and understanding.
His
youngest sister Sheri preceded him in death in 2009.
The “Celebration of Mike’s Life” will be held at the
Alden-Waggoner Funeral Home, Boise Idaho, on October 10, 2011, at 10:00
a.m.
A reception will be held directly
after the memorial service.
The family requests any donations are given to St. Luke’s
Hospice, 190 East Bannock, Boise, Idaho.
