Michael P. Mcneill

Michael Patrick McNeill passed away Nov. 28, 2015 as the result of a tragic car accident.

Mike was born November 17, 1951 in Boise, Idaho to Lorraine “Rainee” Heerlein and Creighton “Tom” McNeill.  Mike lived in Boise all of his life, graduating from Boise High School in 1970. Following in his father’s footsteps, Mike joined the Boise Fire Department in August 1978. He rose through the ranks and retired as a captain on March 30, 2005.

During his many years in the department, Mike was one of the original members of the department’s rescue dive team, served on the board of the Boise Fire Department Credit Union, volunteered with Fill the Boot Campaign, and for many years chaired the Boise Burnout Fund, operated by members of Boise Fire Union Local 149. Mike joked that his next venture was to work on his six-pack abs in order to make it into next year’s annual Fire Fighter’s calendar.

Mike loved working for the Boise Fire Department, where he acquired the nickname “Turtle” and continued to collect fire department memorabilia into his retirement.  He never lost his passion for the job he loved.

In addition to his other service, in 1994, Mike received word that he was a perfect match to be a bone marrow donor for a mother of eight with Leukemia living in Minnesota.  The transplant was successful and he was proud and humbled to have the opportunity to give this woman the chance to watch her children grow.

Mike also volunteered many years as an EMT at Burning Man, an annual gathering at Black Rock City, Nevada; where he continued to make lifelong friends.
Mike never knew a stranger. He was loved by all and would visit with anyone who would sit still long enough to listen. Anyone who knew him would tell you that he had the gift of gab. Mike’s children were convinced that he probably should have been a used car salesman or a politician.
Mike’s passion was to hunt and fish. He always dreamed, and often talked about someday buying a fishing boat that he planned to name “Emma Rose”, after his only granddaughter. Mike dreamed of spending months fishing along the Columbia River in Oregon.  He enjoyed spending his time going target and trap shooting with his kids and brother, Joe.

Mike is survived by his wife, Patty McNeill, his children Mitzi (Matt)  Briggs, Tony (Jennifer) McNeill, Angela McNeill, and Thomas McNeill; his mother and step father, Rainee McNeill and Donald Sieber;  his siblings, Creighton (Cheryl) McNeill,  Chrystine (Norman) Skinner, and Joseph (Leslie) McNeill; his eight grandchildren, Kyle Briggs,  Noah Briggs, Micah McNeill, Brenden McNeill, Emma Frazee, Keagan McNeill,  Caleb Frazee,  step granddaughter Katy Frazee, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded into death by his father Creighton “Tom” McNeill and his nephew Joey McNeill.
Services will be held Friday, Dec. 4 th at 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Boise.
