Mildred R. Bowlby,
96, of Boise, died of natural causes on Monday, July 29, 2013 in a Boise
hospital.
Mildred was born April
26, 1917, in Weiser, Idaho, the daughter of Frank D. and Luella Neibling
Ryan. After graduating from Weiser High
School Mildred attended the University of Idaho, graduating with a Bachelor of
Home Economics Education and later received a Master in Dietetics. She taught briefly in Rupert, ID, where she
met James W. Bowlby and they married on June 21, 1942 in Weiser, ID. They lived in Moscow, ID for 17 years and
lived in Boise for 15 years before retiring in Hemet, CA. Mildred returned to Boise in 1985 after the
death of her husband.
Millie worked as the
deputy assessor of Latah County, ID. She
then was the Dietician at Gritman Memorial Hospital in Moscow and St. Luke’s
Hospital in Boise.
Millie was a member
of First United Methodist Church, Boise, where she was active in Stephens
Ministries. For over fifty years she was
a member of Delta Delta Delta and PEO. She was a member of Eastern Star and Idaho
Pastoral Care Association. Millie was an
avid porcelain artist and a member of Porcelain Painters Associations of Idaho,
Washington and California. She worked as
a volunteer in the Chaplain’s Office in St. Luke’s and St. Al’s Hospitals,
Boise.
Survivors include
her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret J. and William Miller, Waldport, OR; her
son and daughter-in-law, Robert J. and Joyce Bowlby, Seattle, WA; three grandchildren, Jeanine Schlaugh and
Juliet McKay (Boise area) and James Hoskins (Louisiana) ; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded
in death by her brother, Harold L. Ryan.
A memorial service
will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 1, 2013, at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral
Chapel. Inurnment will be at a later
date at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weiser, ID.
