Nancy Hasbrouck Stathis, loving wife,
mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, was taken from us at the young age of 55
from her second battle with cancer on January 20, 2012.
Nancy was born July 7, 1956 to John and
Lelani Hasbrouck of Cascade, Idaho. Nancy was raised on the family ranch on the
edges of Clear Creek. She loved helping her dad, mom and five siblings tend to
the animals and drive the old military truck hauling hay. She attended all but
one year of her school years in Cascade. She attended her junior year in
Horseshoe Bend and attended Emmett school so she could help her dad with the
cows on the winter ranch. After graduating from Cascade she attended the
University of Idaho to follow in her dad, mom and two older sisters foot steps.
Nancy had a deep passion for her Vandals. She bled Silver and Gold through and
through
.
Nancy also had a deep passion for the
Gamma Phi Beta sorority and loved to give her "BJC" friends a hard
time
.
She graduated from the University of
Idaho with a degree in Communications. After college Nancy was a news anchor
for Channel 12 in Nampa, Idaho
.
In 1981 she met the love of
her life Harry Stathis
.
They married January 2, 1983 on the
family ranch in Cascade
.
They lived in McCall where Nancy went to
work for Intermountain State Bank as a bank teller. In 1985 Harry and Nancy
were blessed with their first child Morgan Stathis Hersel. In 1987 their second
blessing Michael John Stathis was born
.
Her kids
meant the world to her. She never missed any of their sporting events even if
she had to drive to Moscow, Idaho for Morgan's volleyball games or to Fruitland
to watch Michael play football. Some of her fondest memories were the ten to
fourteen hour drives to snocross races with six people packed in the truck. No
matter the temperature or the weather she would be yelling, which her kids
could hear over their race snowmobiles, to pin it
.
Harry
and Nancy owned and operated Harry's Drydock from 1986 to 1995 when they bought
the Sports Marina as well. Nancy was the brains behind the business. After
selling the Marina Nancy worked as a painter and then went to work for Valley
County as a Deputy Auditor in 2008. She loved working for the county and took
great pride in her work. In 2009 Nancy's third blessing came along, her
granddaughter Layla Marie Hersel. Nancy loved spending as much time as she
could with her granddaughter. She always looked forward to her Fridays off when
she could spend all day with her granddaughter. She didn't like it when her
baby girl had to move to Boise. Nancy fought her second round of cancer
courageously and never gave up
.
She was one of the
strongest willed women anyone has ever met
Nancy is survived by her husband of 29
years Harry Stathis, daughter Morgan (Josh) Hersel of Boise, son Michael
Stathis of McCall, her granddaughter Layla Marie Hersel, mother Lelani
Hasbrouck, siblings Jane Hasbrouck, Connie (Don) Tolmie, Elt (Trudi) Hasbrouck,
