Neil A. Bancroft,
83, of Meridian, Idaho, died Saturday, April 13, 2013 at home of natural
causes.
There will be a
viewing and the family will greet friends at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic
Church, 1500 E. Wright St., Boise, Idaho 83706, on Thursday, April 18, 2013, from
2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. There will be
a Mass from 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., followed by military honors by the
United States Air Force. Services are
under the direction of the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel.
Neil was born on
March 26, 1930 in Passaic, New Jersey, the son of Clifford B. Bancroft and Lula
M. (Murphy) Bancroft. He grew up in the
Clifton area of New Jersey and graduated from St. Mary's High School in
Rutherford, New Jersey. He then attended
and graduated from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, IN with a degree
in Business Administration.
Neil met Carolyn
Goodwin on a blind date in Boise, ID and soon changed her name to
Bancroft. They were married in Boise on
November 27, 1954.
Neil spent five and
a half years in the United States Air Force.
Because of the military he moved around but mainly raised his family in
Clifton and Matawan, NJ. He and Carolyn
moved to Boise, ID in 1987.
After his discharge
from the Air Force, Neil worked for TIAA-CREF, as a tax-deferred annuties
officer for 26 years, retiring in 1986.
Neil sang in the
Barbershop Chorus, and took a special interest in gardening, woodworking and
reading. His loving family and friends
meant so much to him and he also enjoyed the Irish-American Club (Lunch Bunch),
reading, history, and Boise State & Notre Dame Football.
Survivors include
his wife, Carolyn (Goodwin) Bancroft of Meridian, ID; brother, Brian Bancroft
(Janet) of Matthews, NC; children, Wendy DeMatto (Rick) of Colorado Springs,
CO, Tom Bancroft (Elsie Arntsen) of Matawan, NJ, and Julia Burdge (Erik Nelson)
of Boise, ID; grandchildren, Dan Hatt (Becca) of Columbus, OH, Greg Hatt of
Chicago, IL, Katie Wilcox (Marshall) of Boise, ID Beau Burdge of Boise, ID and
Sam Burdge of Boise, ID. He was preceded
in death by his parents, Clifford and Lula Bancroft, his brothers, Eugene and
Don Bancroft and his sister, Joan Kane.
