Norma
Lee Kuhn, 72, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at her home in Boise.
Norma
Lee was born July 16, 1939 at the home of her Grandmother and Grandfather
Fairbank in Bison, Kansas, the third child of Vera Fairbank Weltz and Alex
Weltz. She moved with her family to
Wichita, KS and attended Lincoln Grade School until third grade, when she moved
back to Bison with her mother and three siblings. She graduated from Bison Grade School, and in
1957 graduated from Bison Rural High School as salutatorian of her small class.
She enjoyed her high school years where she was active in band, all music and drama programs, and
went to State with her humorous readings. For most of her high school high
school years she was employed as a telephone operator at Bison Telephone Company,
until a dial system was installed.
On June
22, 1957, she was married to her childhood sweetheart, Elmo, at St. Michael’s
Catholic Church, LaCrosse, KS. Norma
worked a psychiatric nurse aide at Larned State Hospital until moving with her
husband to Dodge City, KS, where she was employed at Good Samaritan Home. When her husband was inducted into the armed
forces, she moved back to LaCrosse and worked as a nurse aide at Legleiters
Nursing Home. In September of 1960 she
was living as a military wife in Scharnhausen, Germany, where her first
daughter was born. After military
service was completed, the family lived in Bison for a short period of time
before moving to Boulder, CO.
In 1966, Norma graduated from Boulder Valley
School of Practical Nursing. Later that
year her second daughter was born. Norma
was employed at Mesa Vista Sanatorium, Boulder Memorial Hospital in the Nursery
Department and later, did child care in her home.
In
1972, the family moved to Boise, ID.
Norma attended Boise State and also did child care. She enjoyed bowling, BSU football and Atlanta
Braves baseball. She and her husband
vacationed in Las Vegas every year.
Survivors
include her loving husband of 54 years, Elmo; daughters, Karen Jo Ralstin (Mark) and Karla Jean West (Johnny);
grandsons, Benjamin Ralstin and Daniel West; granddaughter, Kristina Lee West;
brother, Marvin Richard Weltz (Shirley), Anthem, AZ; sister, Amy Jo Anderson,
Osborne, KS; and three nieces, two
nephews, two great-nieces and two great-nephews.
Preceding
her in death were her grandparents, parents, and sister, Marian Justice. She also leaves to mourn, other relatives and
friends throughout the United States.
A
funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, at Sacred Heart
Catholic Church, with burial to follow at Morris Hill Cemetery. Viewing for
friends and family will be held on Friday, May 11, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at
Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise.
