Normadine Dixon died peacefully on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at
home. Normadine was born on May 17, 1924 in Thayer, Kansas. She was the
youngest of three children of Ray and Leola Douglas. When the dust bowl drove
her family out of Kansas, they settled in Colorado Springs, CO. In April of
1943 she married her sweetheart, Russell (Bud) Dixon. They were married for 71
years.
In 1952, Dad and Mom moved to the Portland, OR area along
with their 3 children: Russell Dixon, Jr., Devera Gately and Doug (Michelle)
Dixon. Although she held various jobs
over the years, Nomadine was first and foremost a great mother and a loving
grandmother.
In retirement Bud and Normadine bought a Motorhome and
traveled the country visiting friends and relatives. They enjoyed this
immensely. Mom also took up painting at
which she excelled. We have all been on the receiving end of her paintings and
they mean a lot to us. 16 years ago, Mom and Dad moved to Boise, ID to be
closer to family. These were special years for us.
Normadine was preceded in death by her brother Gerald, her
sister Arlene, and her parents. She also lost her husband, Bud in November
2014. She is survived by her three children and four grandchildren: Doug
(Gretchen) Gately, Ali (Ron) Hinshaw, Matt (Lubi) Dixon and Adam Dixon. She
also has 4 great-grandchildren with her 5
th
one due next month.
A graveside service will be held at Morris Hill Cemetery on
Friday, March 13, at 11:00 with a reception following at the home of Doug and
Michelle Dixon.
