Paul West, Boise, passed away Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011. He died at home after battling a lengthy respiratory illness.

Paul was born in Parma, ID on Feb. 24, 1928 to Herman & Katherine West. He was the youngest of three children. While growing up he lived in the Marsing and Caldwell areas. He graduated from Caldwell High School in 1947. He went to work as a machine operator for Artis Metal Company in 1947 until 1951, at which time he joined the Air National Guard. He was called to active duty during the Korean War, being released from active duty in 1952. He spent the rest of his career with the Idaho Air National Guard at Gowen Field in Boise. Paul retired in 1983 with a rank of CMSGT (E-9), Chief Master Sergeant. At the time of retirement his MOS was Aircraft Maintenance Manager.

Paul married Trudy Williams in 1953, they were later divorced. Paul later met Elli Norton. They were married on July 30, 1975. He was a loving husband of 36 years and a sweet and caring family man. He will be forever missed by all his family and friends.

Paul is survived by his wife Elli, son Rick West (Pam) of Meridian, daughter Karen Sherfick (Brian) of Meridian, daughter Angie Tate (Flip) of Boise, son Marc Norton (Lisa) of Eagle, and grandchildren Ricky (Kristen) West, Richelle West, Eric Liles, Steven Liles, Kiefer (Christine) Tate, Charlotte Tate, Gus Tate, Bo Norton and Abi Norton and great-grandchild  Conner, and sister-in law Betty. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, brother Edgar West, sister Marjorie Locklear Whetzel and nephew Tim West.

A viewing will be held at Alden Waggoner Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, Sept. 6 from 5:00 until 8:00. A memorial service and burial will be held at the Idaho State Veteran’s Cemetery on Wednesday, Sept. 7 at 11:00.
