R.A. “Rusty” Jack passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2016. Rusty was born January 14, 1926 in Loup City, Nebraska. His parents were Clarence and Lydia (Wallin) Jack. He lived in Loup City till he was 15 years old, then moved with his parents to Idaho. He graduated from Boise High School in 1943. He enlisted in the United States Navy on January 12, 1944 and served in the Pacific on the Destroyer Escort USS Eisele until the end of the war. Following the war, he returned to Boise and went back to work for the U. S. Postal Service. He retired from the Postal Service after 38 successful years. In 2014, Rusty received a 70 year pin from the National Letter Carriers Association. Few receive this incredible achievement, and after decades of hard work, Rusty deserved this well bestowed honor.
In 1947, he married the love of his life, Celia Leaden. They spent 61 wonderful years together and went on to have 4 children. Their first son, Gary, was born in 1949, their first daughter, Celia Ann, was born in 1950, followed by their second son, Brett, in 1952 and their second daughter, Cheryl, was born in 1955.
In the early 1950’s, with very small children, Rusty invested in a small business, that developed into Commercial TV and Appliance, which is better known today as CHF. Around the time he retired from the Postal Service he made the decision to sell his shares in Commercial and fully retire to spend time traveling with his beloved wife. Rusty immensely enjoyed many outdoor activities including fishing, building and fixing the family cabin, yard work and walking. Retirement also afforded him the time to spend many of his mornings at coffee with friends, traveling to Naval Ship reunions, spoiling grandchildren and going to Cannon Beach their favorite location on the Oregon Coast.
Rusty is preceded in death by his parents, brother, four sisters, daughter, C-ann and wife, Celia. He is survived by his son, Gary and Margaret Jack; son, Brett Jack; daughter, Cheryl and Kevin Marshall; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, as well as 14 great-grandchildren.
The Family would like to thank Grace Assisted Living, Heritage Assisted Living and Memory Care and St. Luke’s Hospice for all of their compassion and care during Rusty’s final years.
