1914-2011
Reva A. Brewer was born on December 9, 1914 in Bancroft, Nebraska to farmers Harry and Jenny Brewer. Reva grew up in a musical family. Her father, Harry was a caller and fiddler at the local barn dances and it was at a dance that she met her future husband, Elwin Wingett, who was also born into a large farm family. She died peacefully on June 21, 2011 in Boise, Idaho at the age of 96, and is preceded in death by her husband, Elwin. She is survived by her children, Gary, Stephen and Janice and their spouses, her sister, Mary and her brothers, Merril and Gerald. Her grandchildren are Denise, Yvonne, Anthony, Brent, David, Michele, Sarah, Jennifer, Jessica and Andrew. Her great¬grandchildren are Hayden, Mateo, Joshua, Michael, Phillip, Andrew, Kaitlyn, Charis, William, Aletheia, Makaya, Landen, and Cole.
Reva graduated from Walthill, Nebraska high school in 1932. She worked in Walthill until her marriage to Elwin Wingett in San Diego, California on August 6, 1936. The couple moved to Kerman, California where Elwin worked for grape farmers. Their son, Gary, was born there. They began a life-long tradition of hospitality and Reva's good farm cooking in their tiny home. Then, they moved to Berkeley, California, where Janice was born. They next moved to Oakland, California where her husband worked his way up to a supervisory position at Cyclone Fence Company. They moved to a small acreage of walnut trees in Walnut Creek, California and while there their son, Stephen was born. The family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 1955 and then to Boise, Idaho in 1958.
Elwin and Reva founded Cascade Fence Company in Boise in 1960. Reva worked side by side, for many years, with Elwin at Cascade Fence. Their son, Gary, and wife, Rosie have owned and managed Cascade Fence for many years.
As a young wife and mother in Oakland, Reva dedicated her life to Jesus Christ, largely due to the influence of her sister, Mary, and of her parents. She faithfully took her children to church and was active as a Sunday School teacher and in Women's Ministries. Reva was totally dedicated to Christ and to her family, extended family and friends. It was because of her life that her husband, Elwin, and her children came to know Jesus, as Savior and Lord. The lasting legacy of Reva, is that all of the generations after her came to know Christ also. She had a quick wit, loved people and loved opening her home to relatives and friends. She was known as the "glue" that kept the Brewer family together, as well as her own, with her care, humor, zest for life and good cooking.
Reva will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
A graveside service will be held today (Saturday), June 25 2011 at Meridian Cemetery. Her memorial service will be held Saturday, July 16, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Central Assembly Christian Life Center, 12000 Fairview Ave., Boise, Idaho. Services are under the direction of the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel.
