Rhonda Marlow, 67, long time resident of Boise
Idaho, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2017 as St. Luke’s Hospital. She was
surrounded by friends and family, and love and laughter when she passed.
Rhonda was the 3
rd
child of Jay and
Jeanne Bates. She was born in Coeur d Alene, Idaho on October 12, 1950. She
lived in Moscow, Idaho and Campaign, Illinois while her dad was going to law
school. They settled in Rigby, Idaho where she went to school. They moved to
Boise where she attended Boise High and graduated with high marks. She went to
technical school in Seattle, Washington and upon graduating was picked up to
join the staff of the Idaho State Controller’s Office in the Statewide Computer
Services division. She began a long career providing technical data processing
support to state agencies, serving under the administrations of State
Auditors Joe R. Williams and J.D. Williams.
While at the State she met the love of her life
Raymond Marlow and on July 2, 1975 they were married in Boise, Idaho. Four
years later they had their daughter, Lisa Marlow, in October 1979. Rhonda
became a working mom and a devoted mother. In her early fifties, with her age
and years of service she was able to retire from the state allowing her to
spend more time with Ray. Where they would take trips to Canada, in their motor
home, to fish and enjoy the great outdoors.
In April of 2002 her father, Jay Bates, passed
away and in December of 2003, after a tough battle with cancer she lost her
best friend and companion, Ray Marlow. She turned her focus to the support of
her mother, Jeanne Bates, her daughter Lisa and her grandchildren. In July 2007
she lost her younger brother Charles Bates.
In May of 2015 she welcomed a new son, Lisa’s
husband, Bryan Ritchie and 2 wonderful new grandsons. She took them all under
her wings and into her heart. She was excited to share her love with the
families Ray’s sons, Ken and Don, were creating and loved it when they visited
and she got to play with the kids.
She was always excited to expand her Christmas
gift list to include new family members. She loved Christmas and the chance to
provide gifts to her family. But she also included friends and the children of
her friends. Then when the years passed she added the children of her friends’
children. She loved giving.
She will be greatly missed by family and
friends. She is survived by her mother Jeanne Bates, Boise; her daughter Lisa
and spouse Bryan Ritchie and their family Alana Marlow, Kyler Burrows, Gabe and
Ayden Ritchie; her
brothers, Reed and Kris Bates; Morgan and
Lynne Bates; sister Tawna and Howard Chase;
her step-sons, Ken and Becky Marlow and
daughter Tabitha; Don and Claudia Marlow and son David
and
numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a very special group of friends
.
A
celebration of Rhonda’s life will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017 at the
LDS Church House at 2290 Warm Springs Avenue, Boise, Idaho at 1:00 PM.
