Richard B. Markle (Rick) passed away peacefully on June 4, 2022, at the age of 73. He was a devoted Christian and a loving husband and father to his family.
Rick was born in Burley, Idaho in 1948 and grew up in Baker City, Oregon and Portland, Oregon. In 1966, he served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. While stationed in Okinawa, he met Sadako and shortly after married her. Together they went back to California where their first son, Rick Jr., was born. Their second son, Tim, was born in Japan. Rick retired from the Marine Corps after 20 years of service. Then he went back to college. He received a master’s degree in Business Administration from Portland State University where he taught for several years. Rick then pursued a career in civil service, managing computer networks and phone systems in Yokosuka, Japan; Bremerton, Washington; and Guam. Rick and Sadako retired and settled in Meridian, Idaho in 2013. They became members of the Central Valley Baptist Church. Rick was very active with the church and was a deacon, usher, and helped with Sunday school. He also volunteered teaching at Providence High School. Always a lifelong learner, he obtained a master’s degree in Theological Studies.
Rick loved traveling and the outdoors. He especially loved fishing and woodworking. He tinkered with computers which inspired his sons’ careers. He was also an avid reader with many books in his home. But he enjoyed most spending time with his family.
Rick is survived by his loving wife Sadako, two sons, Rick Jr. (Akiko) and Tim, and one grandson, Sean. He is also survived by his brothers and sister, Don, Gary, Steve, Kim, and JR.
