Richard D. Barker was born on March 2, 1937 in San Rafael, CA to Slim and Mary Barker. The family moved to Ketchum, ID and remained in the Wood River Valley for many years. On June 29, 2024 he passed away in Nampa, ID.
He joined the army in 1955 and was stationed in Germany in 1956. While in Germany he married Gisela Baier, with whom he had 3 children.
Upon return to Idaho he worked at Albertson’s until 1967, when he joined the US Postal Service. He served in the American Postal Workers Union as the president of the Boise chapter, the Idaho state president and the Seattle Region Business Agent.
In 1981 he married Shirley Wagoner (Conarro). Both retired from the US Postal Service in 1992. They became full time RV’ers , returning to Idaho in 2009.
He is preceeded in death by his parents, sister Kay Arlene Barker, sister Sara Ruth Anderson, brother Phillip Clark Barker and brother Curtis Warren Barker.
He is survived by his sisters Louise Birmbaum and Cecilia Porter, his daughter Heike Golden, sons Robin Barker (Ambra) and Slim Barker (Ladda), daughters Jennifer Coleman (Robert), Holly Anderson and Deena Larkin (John). He has 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Most importantly he is survived by Shirley Ann Barker, his wife, friend and partner in life.
He was a member of the Followers of Christ Church.
Funeral services will with military honors will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 11 a.m. at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel. A viewing will be held on Friday from 4 - 7 p.m.
