Dick passed
away peacefully on October 19, 2018 at the age of 84.
He was born
in Pierre, S.D. on Oct. 3, 1934 to Walt and Kathryn Frazee; he was the fifth of
seven children.
After
graduating from Pierre H.S., he joined the US Navy in 1954, where he was a
radio operator (RM3) aboard the aircraft carrier USS Shangri-La. Dick followed
his older brothers into proudly serving his country with his brother James in
the Army, Donald in the Marines, and Maurice in the Air Force.
After an honorable
discharge in 1958, he married Carol Anne McLaughlin. Dick and Carol moved to
Arizona where Dick began his banking career. Shortly after their son Craig was
born, they moved to Colorado; Lisa and Brian joined the family.
In 1974, they moved to Boise, where Dick
continued his career in banking. For many years, he performed inspections for title
insurance and continued doing that part-time after retiring from the Ada County
Assessors as an appraiser.
Upon his
retirement, he pursued his favorite hobbies. He took every opportunity he had
to fish on the Big Wood River. He also enjoyed woodworking, refurbishing
Carol’s rescued items, and building things with his grandkids. Dick loved
working in the shop—tinkering and being the family handyman. He enthusiastically
(and patiently) passed those skills down to his grandchildren—mixed-in with
numerous antics as the grandkids were able to coerce him into doing fun things.
His ability to make the grandkids feel special was his
superpower
.
Dick loved
watching his beloved Broncos—both BSU and Denver—and his favorite basketball
team—Gonzaga—in his "Bronco room" where he displayed all his Bronco
and Bulldogs memorabilia. He enjoyed watching college basketball, especially
March Madness. Dick liked watching old movies—“It’s a classic”—he could watch
them several times and never tire of them.
He had a
deep interest in WWII history; he liked reading and watching all the books and
movies he could find. He probably knew enough to write his own book!
He is remembered
with love by his wife of 57 years; children: Craig, Lisa and Brian; grandchildren:
Kyle, Hunter, Cort, Conor, Parker, and Payton; sisters: Joan Trautner and Linda
Bougie-Jorgensen; son-in-law: Chad; and daughters-in-law: Candy, Laura, and
Brenda. He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Lynn, Michael, Perry,
Shelly, David, Curtis, Anthony and Kim.
He was
preceded in death by his parents and four brothers Donald, Maurice, James and
Mark.
Dick was a
kind, generous man with an infectious laugh and a sweet tooth who loved
spending time with his grandkids.
Dick will be
missed—INDUBITABLY.
A private
service and interment will be held at the Idaho Veterans Cemetery.
