Richard “Dick” Harry Schofield, 81, of Nampa, died on April 25, 2011 at a Nampa care center of natural causes.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery with military honors by the United States Army. A special tribute will be given in his honor by the Elks Lodge of Boise.
Dick was born in Marlborough, Massachusetts to Harry and Doris Mae Neill Schofield. He attended Dunnelen High School and then joined the Army Air Corps studying meteorologist. He married Joan Raye Schofield on October 20, 1951 at the United Methodist Church in Cranford, NJ. They lived in Beacon, NY, Dunellen, NJ, and then settled in Cranford, NJ where they raised their family and then retired in July of 1986, moving to Boise.
Richard worked as a Meteorologist while in the Army Air Corps, as a police officer in Cranford, New Jersey and as a driver for Shallcross Trucking. He retired, moved to Boise and then drove bus for Boise-Winnemucca Stages.
He enjoyed bowling, also piloting his private airplane. Dick was also very active in the Veterans Administration, and was on the Board of Directors of the Idaho Elks Rehabilitation Hospital. He was a part of the B.P.O.E. (Elk’s Association), where he held the offices of Exalted Ruler and District Deputy to the Grand Lodge #1583, New Jersey. Dick was a volunteer at the Elk’s Rehab Hospital in Boise. He was the past editor of the Gem State Elks Newspaper, and had also held the office of State Secretary of the Elks.
Dick is survived by two sons, Richard H. Schofield II, of Joplin, MO, and Brian C. Schofield, of Nampa, a brother Bruce Schofield of Boise, and many more relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Raye Schofield in June of 2010, and by his parents.
