Richard M. (Dick) Savage, 86, of Boise, died Thursday, June 9, 2011, at his home. No formal service will be held at Dick’s request, however a remembrance gathering will be held at Warm Spring’s Golf Course, on Monday, June 20, 2011, from 3-5:30 p.m. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise.
Dick was born on April 4, 1925, in Murtaugh, Idaho to Richard Mathew Savage and Sarah Louise Willey. He graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1943, received his BA at Idaho State College in 1949, and his MA at the University of Utah in 1950, and then completed graduate work in Educational Administration. He married Phyllis Jean Clezie on April 14, 1949 in Elko, Nevada. Dick enjoyed fly fishing, golf, bowling, gardening, poker, bridge and reading. He was an avid outdoors man and conservationist, and loved spending time at his cabin in Lowman. Dick made sure his three daughters were educated, well informed, well read, articulate, and darn good fisherwomen.
From 1950 to 1957 Dick was a part-time farmer with his father. He also was a teacher and administrator in Idaho Schools. From 1957 to 1963 he was the Director of Placement and Executive Secretary of Alumni Association at Idaho State University. He served from 1960 to 1962 as Director of Publications and Information at Idaho State University. From 1963 to 1981 he was the Personnel Manager – Vice President of Human Resources at Idaho First National Bank.
Memberships include the Established Soil Conservation District in South Bingham County 1955.
He was the past chairman of the Education Committee, Boise Chamber of Commerce, President of Boise Valley Chapter of Pacific Northwest Personnel Association, member of Pi Kappa Delta; member of Phi Delta Kappa, Director of Idaho Heart Association, Vice President of Gem State Kiwana’s, member of board of directors of the Idaho Childrens Home, and was on the Governor’s Management Task Force. He was also the manager of Warm Springs Golf Course for a year after retirement from banking.
Dick is survived by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis J. Savage; daughters, Sandra Savage and Merri Ann Savage, of Boise, and Shannon Savage (Marcos Grimsditch) of Port Angeles, WA; and his sister, Bernetta Feld, of Aberdeen, ID
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lela Conner, Jacqueline Brown, Barbara O’Marra, and Patricia Judd.
