Richard (Rich) Edward Johnsmeyer

Rich Johnsmeyer, age 66, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2014 at his home in Meridian, Idaho.

Rich was born on August 2, 1947 in Boise, Idaho to Edward Arthur Johnsmeyer and Elsie Irene Johnsmeyer.  He was a brother to Sharon Baker of Boise, Idaho.

His childhood was spent hunting and fishing with his father and his best friend, “Ol” Brad Rice.   They spent many hunting adventures on an island in the Snake River near Wilder, Idaho.   He attended Meridian High School where he graduated in 1965.  He went on to attend the University of Idaho until he was called upon to proudly serve his country in the United States Army in 1968 during the Viet Nam War as a Combat Engineer.

Upon return he met and married his wife of 41 years, Julie Duncan of Mtn. Home, Idaho.  They were blessed with two wonderful boys, Shane and Brandon.  Rich began his career in Boise, Idaho where he operated his own trucking business for a short time.  The family then located to Pocatello, Idaho where he worked for GK Machinery.  He loved being around and operating heavy equipment.  They later returned to Boise, Idaho where he worked for Peterbilt in sales.  In 1984 the family moved to Elko, Nevada to begin an opportunity with Eklund Drilling Company, Inc. where he was the Purchasing Agent and Manager of the Warehouse for 24 years.  He was responsible for maintaining a fleet of drill rigs, where there was never a dull moment.  He met many lifelong friends there and influences in that working environment were passed along to his boys.  One special friend jokingly stated that “someone in heaven must have needed the wrong parts.”

He and Julie retired in 2008 and moved back to Meridian, Idaho .
He loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting and spending special time with the boys and family.  His special interests included NHRA Racing, Nascar Racing, driving his Shelby Mustang, spending time with his Black Lab Katie, Boise State football parties, the many fishing trips to Alaska and conversing with his many pals.  He and Julie enjoyed a Panama Canal Cruise for their 40 th anniversary.

Rich is survived by his wife, Julie, his son Brandon Johnsmeyer, of Elko, Nevada, his son Shane and his wife (Jennifer) and  two precious  grandsons, Keagen and Kory,  and granddaughters, Hayley and Sierra, and special great grandson, Isaiah of Elko Nevada.   Also surviving is his sister, Sharon Baker of Boise, Idaho.  Nephews include Scott Baker, Bryan Baker and Darin Baker, of Boise, Idaho,  Ryan Johnson of LA, California, and Kyle Eklund of Reno, Nevada.  Nieces, Lisa (Bart) Veis of Bend, Oregon and Lindsey Leonis (Joe) of Reno, Nevada.   Loving family members include Sofia Wegman (special granny), Lance and Joanne Eklund, of Reno, Nevada and Rita Rawls of Boise, Idaho.  He was preceded in death by his parents Edward Arthur Johnsmeyer and Elsie Irene Johnsmeyer.

Our family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the VA Hospital for their constant special care the last few years.
