Robert Bur t on Taylor, hu s b an d, f a t h er, grandfat he r, godfather, teacher, retired Air Force Chief Master Sergeant , brother , fri e nd, age 81, died on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Life Care Center of Treasure Valley in Boise.

Born in 1930 in Mode s to California, the s on of a me c h a ni c and pilot, Bob gr e w up w i th a l ove fo r pla n es . He dropped out o f high sc h o ol to e n list in t he Air F o r c e, s er v i n g hi s f i r s t four years in K orea and Japan .

After retu r ning t o M o desto, Bob tr ied to finish h i g h sc hool . . . but quickly realized s c hool w as n ot for him. He re - enlisted within a month of getting out and while stationed in California met the love of h i s · life, Vir g inia Ruth G r over, i n S eptember of 195 6 , and married her Octob e r 6 t h t he same ye a r . A y ear lat e r thei r so n Gary Burton was born a nd the year after that, their d a ughter Leslie Ann . As a family the y lived in six states, Ge rmany and Saudi Arabia b e fore retirin g in B o i s e and t he n Meridian Id aho .

While in the Air Force Bob served two tours in V ietnam and Thailand . During his tour in Thail a nd, Bob graduated fr o m h igh s c ho o l at the age o f 43 . After re t i r ing i n Bo i se, Bo b g radu a ted fr o m B SU with a degree in history and edu c ati o n and began h is s e c ond career as a te a cher at Meridian Jr Hi g h . L a ter he mo v ed to the Meridian A ca demy whe r e he taught for 1 3 y ears, mea n w h ile c o mple t ing hi s Masters in Ed uca ti o n at BSU. B o b thri v ed a t tea c hing and truly lo v ed his students . He will be g rea t ly missed by a ll wh o k new h im .

Bob i s s u rvived by his wife Virginia; son, G ary ( C h eryl) Taylor; grand c hildren, Megan (Jeremiah) Zahnow , Jennifer and Zachary Taylor ; daughter, Leslie Taylor, sister, Ev e lyn C offing and si s ter - i n - law, Dorothy G rover. Also he will be m iss ed b y h is God c hildre n, Kari s sa, A s hley and Hailee Wood, and nieces and nephew s in Snoqualmie, Washington .

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2012, at Meridian United Methodist Church, 240 East Idaho, Meridian, Idaho. Interment will follow at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., with military funeral honors by the United States Air Force.
