Robert L. Richmond, 92, of Boise, passed away February 27, 2012, of age-related causes.

M emorial servic es w ill be held at 1 p.m . on Saturda y, March 2 4 , at the F ir s t B a pti s t C hur c h , 13 th and W as hi ng ton S treets , Boise .

Bob w as born in Sher i dan , W yo min g, on D e c e mber 5 , 191 9, to Bill and A lic e R i chmond . He mo ve d to Cabarton , Idaho , in 1923 , w here he recei v ed hi s elementary e ducation and gr adu a ted from Donn e lly , Id a ho , High School in 1934 . His famil y li v ed in a U nion Pacific boxcar that w as con v erted to a h o me most of hi s youth .

In 1939 he started hi s career w ith the Union P ac ific Railroad . His first po s ition w as a s tel e grapher - agent . He worked his way up the corporate ladder with various assignments in Idaho , Las Vegas , Salt Lake City, Los Ang e les , Portland , Oregon , and Om a ha , N eb r aska , where he retired a s Vice President-Operations in 1981 . He went f rom living in a bo x car to ha v in g his o w n railro a d car , w hich carried the name " Cabarton ." Hi s w as a r e markable career , go in g f rom the lo west pa yi n g job t o being the number t w o in command , a f e at th a t j u s t w ould not happ e n in thi s da y a nd a g e, g i v en his e du cat ion. H e us e d to delight w h e n th e l awye rs a nd other railro a d o f ficials , with their v ariou s education a l degrees hun g proudl y in their o f fice s , w ould be summoned to his o f fice w here he proudl y had hun g on his wall hi s Donnell y H ig h School diploma ! Bob married the love of his life , Donna B e th Ros e , on December 21 , 1939. He m e t Donn a Beth when she w a s attending Cascade High School , and this union produced two children , Bob (his w ife Sandy ) of Boise , and Sue Ann Shipley ( her husband Dick) of Poulsbo , Washing t on . He is survived by his children , four grandchildren , Jill Richmond Johnson (Peter), Rob Richmond ( E lisabeth ), Paul S hipley ( Rebecca) a nd Scott Shipley (Hella) , and seven great grandchildren, Libby, Chloe and Graham Richmond and Ben , Matt , Jack and E v a Shipley . Donna Beth passed away June 26, 1998 .

A member of the Greatest Generation, he served in the Air Force during World War II

A f ter retirement Bob li v ed in A ri z ona for t we nt y yea r s, w here he ser ve d o n va r io u s n on ­ profit boards. He took training and w as active in The Stephens Ministry program in Rio Verde and Peoria , Arizona , a nd he was Ari z ona State Chairman of the Fellowship of C hristian Athl e tes . He lo ve d t he L ord , h av ing commi t ted his life to Him m a ny y ear s ago. Bob mo v ed to Boi s e yea r s a g o to be nea rer hi s famil y . He wa s a member o f the Bapti s t Church , a member o f the Ma s oni c L o d ge, Sco t ti s h Rite , a Shriner , a nd a p a st member of Rot a r y Club of Boi se .

B o b w a s a great role model for hi s fa m i l y , a m an o f int e g ri ty an d wis dom , c oupl e d wi th lo v ing kindn ess. H e w as a s o ft spok e n , car i n g and ge ntl e p e r s on. He w a s a m an o f s ubstance. B o b h a d a w onder f ul sen s e of humor and a smil e and a k i nd w ord for a l l.
