Robert V. (Bob) Castleman Sr.

Robert V. (Bob) Castleman Sr., 77, of Boise, passed away January 21, 2012 due to complications from an unspecified neurological disease, at The Life Care Center of Treasure Valley.


Bob was born in Mexico, Missouri to Samuel and Opal Castleman on September 22, 1935.  He graduated from Excelsior High School in Norwalk, California in 1954.  After setting numerous school records in baseball and football, several still stand today, he was selected in the Major League Baseball draft as a pitcher by the St. Louis Cardinals.  He played in the Cardinals, Pirates and Cubs organizations from 1954-1957, until a rotator cuff injury ended his career.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960.



Baseball was his passion.  He co-founded Meridian Little League in 1978.  He was instrumental in building the original Meridian Little League Baseball fields, and was the Head Coach of the first Meridian Little League All-Star team to reach the Regional Tournament in San Bernardino, California in 1983.  He continued to share his passion and knowledge of baseball, coaching Meridian Babe Ruth, Meridian High School and American Legion's Meridian Rangers.



Bob was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda, son Rob, sister Harriet, brother Bill and his beloved nieces and nephews.



The family wishes to thank all of those who shared loving thoughts and prayers, as well as The Life Care Center of Treasure Valley and Legacy Hospice of Boise for care and support during Bob's last days.



Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Friday, January 27 at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, 5400 Fairview Avenue, Boise, Idaho 83706.
