Our beloved Roger went to be with the Lord on January 13,
2013 at home with his family members around him. A service celebrating his life
will be held January 21 at 1:00 pm at Boise Friends Church, 7751 Goddard Road.
A luncheon will follow at the church.
Roger was born November 1, 1939 in Boise, the son of Ray and
Winnifred Bissell. He grew up hunting and fishing with his dad, Ray and this
instilled a lifetime love of the outdoors in him. He passed this passion on to
his family and many of our best memories of him center on outdoor adventures.
On May 10, 1962 he married Carol Hoopes of Boise. Carol was his best friend and
the love of his life. In May 2012 they
celebrated their 50
th
wedding
anniversary.
Roger graduated from Boise High School in 1957 and Boise
Junior College in 1959. He graduated from the University of Idaho in 1963 in
Mechanical Engineering. He attended graduate school at Oregon State University
while working at his first professional position with CH2M Hill in Corvallis
Oregon. Roger transferred to the Boise office in 1967 and worked for CH2M until
his retirement in 2005. During his career he served on the Board of Directors
from 1980 to 1982 and as Vice President of Mechanical Engineering for several
years. During his tenure he worked as team leader for many innovative projects
including hydroelectric, nuclear and geothermal power projects. Most recently,
he was instrumental in design of a state-of-the-art water treatment system for
the Republic of Singapore. Roger contributed many hours to the community
serving various positions in the Idaho Society of Professional Engineers, the
Idaho Board of Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors and the
University of Idaho Engineering Advisory Board. In 2007 Roger was awarded the
Idaho Excellence in Engineering Award for Outstanding Contributions to
Engineering.
The position Roger considered most important was his service
on the Board of Elders for Boise Friends Church. Many of his closest friends
are those he met while serving the church. Roger was an honorable man who
served God. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and friend. Roger
is preceded in death by his parents Ray and Winnifred Bissell, father and
mother-in-law Clarence and Gladys Hoopes and brother-in-law Wayne Hoopes. He is
survived by his wife Carol; a son Kevin (Katy) of Boise; a daughter Crystal of
Boise; a sister-in-law Deeann Hoopes of Fredericktown Pennsylvania; nephews
Chad (Tammy) Hoopes of Oakland, Maryland; Micah (Jessie) Hoopes of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania; and nieces Jodee
