Ronald Alan West (81), long time of residence Boise, ID, passed away on May 6, 2015 of natural causes at the Life Care in McMinnville, OR. Ron was born November 21, 1932 to Al and Illa West of Minneapolis, MN. He grew up in Minneapolis and attended the University of Minnesota where he met his wife, LaVon “Vonnie” Thompson.

Ron and Vonnie were married in 1955 and moved to Norfolk, VA where Ron served in the US Navy. After receiving an honorable discharge he and Vonnie returned to Minneapolis. In 1962 Ron was transferred by Boise Cascade Corporation to Boise ID. Ron and Vonnie moved to Boise with their two sons Scott and Jeff where they spent many happy years.

Ron lived a full and productive life. He was a successful business man being self-employed for the past 30 years and belonged to the Boise Executives Association.  Ron was an avid fan of Boise State Broncos and the Minnesota Vikings. He was an active member of Bronco Athletic Association. He and Vonnie are the founders of the Ron and Vonnie West Athletic Scholarship at Boise State University.

Ron was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years Vonnie and brother, Gary West. He is survived by adult sons Scott Alan West and his wife (Carol) of Olympia, WA, and his other son Jeffrey Ronald West of Vancouver, WA, and grandchildren, Kyle, Katie, Davis and Calley.

Ron will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, gracious smile and positive outlook. Ron was a loving husband and father and will be dearly missed.

A celebration of Ron’s life will be held on June 23, 2015 at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, 5400 Fairview Ave., Boise, at 1:30PM.
