Ruby S. Rast, 90, of Boise, passed away on Fri. Mar. 8, 2013, in a local assisted living facility. A funeral service will be held on Fri. Mar. 15, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Boise. Burial will be take place at Terrace Lawn Cemetery, Boise. Arrangements are under the direction of Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel.

Ruby was born on Feb. 11, 1923 in Garfield Co., Wason Flats, MT. She grew up on a farm and attended school in Wason Flats until moving to Veda, MT, where she graduated from grammar school and later graduated from High School in Wolf Point, MT. After High School, she went to work in Washington D.C. for the Government Civil Service, until transferring to Camp Hale, CO and Portland, OR with the Port of Embarkation. She then went to San Francisco and Oakland, CA to work for General Motors, before working for the Bureau of Public Records in San Francisco. She met and married Helmut Rast on Nov. 13, 1954 in San Francisco. They moved to American Falls, and then lived in Pocatello until Jan. 1969. They then moved to Boise, where Ruby worked for Intermountain Gas Co. for a few years. After Helmut retired, they did a lot of traveling. Ruby was a member of the Lutheran Church and involved with the LWML (Ladies Organization) at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Helmut Rast; and thirteen siblings.

She is survived by her sister, Ruth Thun, of Calgary, Canada; brother, Walter Presser of California; a son, Kim Rast; and two grandchildren, Celeste Rast, and Jaanai Rast; a nephew and his wife, Lawrence and Mary Etta Fredrickson of Middleton; as well as many other nieces and nephews.
