Sarah (Eve) Dickinson
1927-2011
Sarah (Eve) Dickinson passed to a better place after a short illness 6/13/11. She was originally from Birmingham, AL where she was born on February 21, 1927. She resided in California from circa 1956 to 1978. From 1978 until her passing, she was in Idaho and Boise from 1980 to the present. She is survived by her only daughter/child Pamela Zimmer and her mate of 24+ yrs Jonathan Huffer and his parents Betty and Gerald; a grand daughter Erica Zimmer-Wachter and great-grand children Breanne and Eric all of Tacoma, WA. ; a grandson Dustin Zimmer of northern Idaho and Dustin's children. At a very young age, Sarah was married. The marriage itself was abusive but the light of life and family focused upon the adorable son Robert whom she bore. Tragedy struck and two years into little Robert's life, he was taken with spinal Meningitis. Shortly after the divorce, Sarah joined the U.S. Air Force and served in Air Defense Command in southern California.
Friends of Sarah's and my future dad planned a blind date. The dating process turned quickly to love. She married Ralph Zimmer, a WW2 hero and electrician. Years prior, my father had met and married an English woman during war time and they had a son, Michael. His mom once in the U.S. suddenly and inexplicably deserted my future dad AND her young son Michael. (Never to be seen again). When Michael was introduced to my mother, he hugged her and said, "I'm goanna call you momma!" In deed, she was the only mother he would ever know. After my mother was told she'd never be able to have another baby, time passed and she gave birth to a baby girl Pamela, (That's me!) Mom will also be missed by our dog Jessica. (Mom and I have lived together for many years). Serious illness took the life of my father. Later in life mother felt she had found her soul mate Orbras Dickinson. He too served his country in two tours of duty with the U.S. Navy. My mother, better known in her prime years as "Eve" was a true "LADY" -honest, intuitive, loveable, successful and intelligent. In her life time, she was part of the military, was a truly wonderful mother and wife, owned and operated her own business, earned a pilots license, served as Mayor of a small California town, was formally educated as a successful Realtor, as well as in counseling-responsible for monitoring substance abuse treatment organizations for the state and counseled in Substance abuse personally. She graduated California State U., was President of the Idaho Writer's League and wrote a novel, had her own weekly radio show, served and set up two programs under Governor Kempthorn's request. One reviewed the unnatural deaths of Children in Idaho and the other a program of advocacy for local veterans and other homeless or unfortunate folks to find housing, help with business, friendship and placement. She also should NOT be forgotten for her job as Assistant Executive Director at the V.A. Medical Center where she assessed continuing education needs of nurses in this area, designed the agendas, and was responsible for all speakers/educators (from all over the country) who fulfilled the mainstay of timely continuing education issues for nurses. My mother was also one executive/ veteran who was one of the first to actively encourage, and seek out other WOMEN veterans in need of care at the V.A. My mother and I also lost my brother Michael, a veteran of the Viet Nam War and victim of an Agent Orange related cancer and his service with Military honors was held June 17, 2011th. My mother and I have had a truly wonderful and continuously caring relationship with many family-like friends in Boise area which has deeply touched my heart. My mother was the most beautiful and graceful person I have ever known. She was a mentor to many and knew also the art of listening and learning. Her secret to friendship was always that she took such good care of her friendships. I have often said EVERYONE should have known my mom-she was able to relate to any age, status or problem and was truly a healing balm.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 24, 2011 at Alden Waggoner Funeral Chapel. Committal services with full military honors will follow at 1P.M. Friends and especially Veterans are invited to come to the Veteran's Cemetery at 1P.M.
