Sharon Lee Slater

Sharon Lee Slater, 82 of Boise passed away at home Sunday November 13, 2016 of natural causes.

She was born September 5, 1934 in New Plymouth to parents Archie and Nina Baxter. She was the youngest of three sisters and grew up in Weiser. Sharon went from first grade to graduation from Weiser High with her best friend to this day, Eva Turnipseed. The two were inseparable. They loved going to the Saturday Western Matinee at the Star Theatre, where they would attempt to elude Archie’s watchful eye and hide just outside his view.

Sharon met the love of her life, Lester Vern Slater, while working as a secretary for the Swift Food Company in Boise. They were married in Weiser September 10, 1955 at the First Baptist Church. Together they brought a son into the world, Jeffrey Alan Slater in 1957. Lester passed away of cancer April 8, 2003- breaking Sharon’s heart.

This loss, however painful, brought Sharon and her son, Jeff, even closer. For the next 14 years the two of them were best friends and travel buddies. She loved bowling, gardening, and taking care of her family. Her favorite places to visit were Yuma and San Francisco. Sharon will be remembered as a great wife, mother, sister, friend, and neighbor. She lived in the same home for the last 55 plus years and will be missed by all her neighbors, especially Ona Healy, who’s been like a sister. Fridays will never be the same for Jan, Sharon’s hairdresser, who’s spent decades keeping Mom beautiful.

Sharon is survived by her son, Jeff, of Boise and her sister Joyce Blake of Eugene, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her husband Lester, her sister Coral, her parents, and her beloved dog BIGBOY, who all meant the world to her.

At Sharon’s request, there will be no public services. Inurnment will take place this coming spring in New Plymouth.
