Shaun Richard Bonney, 50, passed away unexpectedly on June 17, 2024. Shaun was a loving and dedicated husband, father, son and friend to many. Whether you knew him for a moment or for many years, his spirit, laugh and love were contagious.
Shaun was born in Boise, Idaho to Cindy McMackin and Dennis Bonney. Shaun found his love for the outdoors, the lake, fishing and being active early on. His love for dirt bike riding started at the young age of 5. A love he held into adulthood and shared with his friends and family. It was often he would ride with friends at Owyhee Motorcycle Club or in the mountains on trails. It was not uncommon to find him at Moto One on his lunch or talking about the races with his friends. Shaun and friends had an annual camping trip each year, referred to as “The Annual.” While some things changed over the years, the bonds and friendships were strong. Something he cherished even more when, in more recent years, they took long rides and added a “Fall Annual.”
Shaun attended Borah High School, graduating in 1992. After he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Boise State University in 1997, he went on to attend law school at the University of Idaho where he pursued his life goal of becoming an attorney. He graduated with his Juris Doctorate and passed the Idaho State Bar Exam in 2001. Shaun began his career and, in 2004, formed Shearer and Bonney, with his friend and mentor. He continued this work and grew the practice with time. Something he was very proud of.
Shaun met Melissa (Stano) when they were in college. After finishing their schooling and beginning their careers, they married in 2002. They have two children, Adrianna “Addie” born in 2006 and Liam “Nik” born in 2010. Shaun ensured the family was having fun, whether he was doing something to make them laugh or taking them to the mountains. Shaun enjoyed many fishing trips to Alaska with Melissa and her family, eventually the kids went too. Many good times were had on the Eyak, bantering over who caught the largest fish, who caught the most, or just enjoying the space and small town. Shaun and Melissa spent time in Cuprum helping the Stano family add onto the cabin, logging what was never a small tree and just enjoying family time in the hills. Shaun spent several years hunting with Melissa’s dad, and later taking his son, Liam. More recently the family spent time in Cascade, learning the trails, best fishing spots, and creating more memories.
The sudden loss of Shaun is felt by many. Those who know and love him knew he liked to argue the opposite point to mess with you, be the fastest and best at everything, and know he would be there for you in a second if you needed him.
Shaun was preceded in death by his grandfather Walter Bonney, grandmother Dolores Post, grandfather Eugene McMackin, and aunt Kim Tyson. He is survived by his wife Melissa, daughter Adrianna, son Liam, mother Cindy, father Dennis and grandmother Delorise Bonney, as well as many other extended family members and in-laws. A memorial service will be held at Owyhee Motorcycle Club on July 12, 2024 at 2 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life open house at the Bonney residence from 4 PM - 8 PM.
