Sidney David Fleischer passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital,
Meridian, on June 19, 2014.
Sid was born on May 14, 1936, in Hillsboro, Oregon. He was
the son of Jerome Fleischer and Evalyn Kramien Fleischer. They lived in Seattle
briefly before settling in Los Angeles, California during World War II. He
graduated from Fairfax High School in Los Angeles and attended Cal Poly San
Luis Obispo where he studied Engineering. He worked in the aerospace industry
before becoming a life insurance agent for several companies through the years,
retiring from Lutheran Brotherhood in the early 1990’s.
In 1960, he met his bride Doris Cook, and they married six
months later on November 25, 1960. They had three children, David, Kathleen,
and Mark. The family moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1968 and then to Boise in
1975.
Sid loved music – Jazz, Classical, and Opera were his
favorite genres. He spent many years singing tenor
in the
King of Glory Lutheran Church choir. He loved sports cars, owning several in
his 20’s, and taught all his kids to drive -- what they later learned were not
basic skills to pass the driving test, but stunt driving! After his retirement,
Sid went back to work a few months later at the Sears Auto Center, and stayed
there for five years. Sid also loved dogs, having several canine friends from
youth to old age. After a severe stroke put him into a nursing home in 2007, he
looked forward to visits from his Sheltie, Hailey. Sid also had a wicked sense
of humor which he proudly passed on to his kids.
Sid is survived by his bride of almost 54 years, Doris of
Meridian; children Kate Sena (Eric) of Beaverton, Oregon, and Mark (Delvi) of
Boise; and grandchildren Paden, Austin, Abigail, and Alexandra. He was preceded
in death by his parents, his son David, and his granddaughter Jordyn.
Private interment will be held at Meridian Cemetery. A Celebration
of Life service will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 2:00 pm, King of
Glory Lutheran Church, 3430 N. Maple Grove Rd., Boise. In lieu of flowers, the
family requests that donations be made in Sid’s name to the Idaho Humane
Society or a charity of your choice.
