Sidona
(Sid) Hoover, 94, of Eagle, died Thursday, July 18, 2013 at a Boise assisted
living center.
Sidona
(Sid) was born on June 19, 1919 to Joseph Hansen and Annie Andersen Hansen in
Central
,
Idaho in a little home between Lava Hot Springs
&
Soda Springs, Idaho
.
When she
was 2 years old, her daddy died
.
Sid had one sister, Bessie, and
one brother, Gerald. When Sid was a young girl, the family moved to Meridian,
Idaho and she attended school there
.
At
age 16
,
Sid began working at Troy Laundry
.
In 1941
she married Frank Dunne, who also worked at Troy Laundry
.
From
that marriage
,
she had 3 wonderful sons Dan
,
Tim
,
and
Jerry
.
With her example
,
Sid's sons learned the value of
hard work and family togetherness. They respected her and knew she was a tough
lady that they couldn't get anything past
.
After
her marriage to Frank ended in 1980, Sid married Paul Hoover
i
n
January 1982. They lived in his home in Atlanta
,
Idaho on
weekends and in Boise the rest of the week. They later made a permanent home in
Boise.
While
living in Boise, Paul and Sid attended Boise Friends Church where Sid accepted
Christ as her Lord and Savior. Harold Antrim was her Pastor and teacher. She
and Paul enjoyed years of friendship and service at Boise Friends
.
In later
years
,
they worshipped with family closer to home at Boise First
Baptist Church.
It
seemed everything Sid spent time doing, she became exceptionally skilled and
successful at
.
Fishing was one of her life-long loves. When her boys were
young, they spent countless hours on the Bo
i
se River, where Sid often
took home the best catch
.
Later in her life
,
Sid's favorite fishing hole was
Mountain View Reservoir. Fishing outings were one of the rare occasions when
Sid wasn't decked out in beautiful
,
bold
earrings and necklaces.
Anyone
who knew Sid can certainly attest that she was a fantastic cook and she enjoyed
prepar
i
ng meals for loved ones. If asked for one of her recipes, she
'
d often
say she doesn't follow one
...
"
it
'
s just a
little of this, a little of that
.
"
It was
her way of keeping the secrets safe and the kids coming back for more.
Sid
also bowled like a champ. In fact, w
i
th a 185 bowling average
,
she was
quite accomplished at the sport. She bowled for the Elks Ladies team for a few
years and collected many accolades.
It
should also be noted that Sid had an unusual amount of luck at gambling.
Perhaps it wasn't luck at all. She had strategy and patience and just the right
touch on the slot machines in Jack Pot, Nevada
.
Watching
her winnings pour out
,
she would smi
l
e innocently, as if she didn
'
t know
what she was doing.
In
her later years, Sid enjoyed quiet activities at home and was gifted at
embroidery and crochet work. She lovingly made tea towels
,
baby
clothes, slippers, and other cozy comforts for her family
.
With
declining health and living at Emerson House in Garden City, she was ministered
to by her church family from First Baptist Church. Church family visited her,
prayed for her and sent her cards regularly.
We
would like to extend a special thank you to Emerson House in Garden City for
their wonderful care and the loving treatment given to our mother
.
Mom
lived there for over three years and the staff and administration were
extraordinary in every way. They have been a blessing to Sid and our family
.
Sid
lived a long, full life
.
Her memory is cherished by her son Dan Dunne and his wife Jeri;
her son Tim Dunne and his wife Mary; her son Jerry Dunne and his wife Denise;
as well as Sid's 8 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren,
and many nieces and nephews.
She
was preceded in death by her father, mother, sister, brother, and husband,
Paul.
In
lieu of flowers, donations to the Idaho Food Bank are appreciated.
Services
will be held at Alden Waggoner Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, July 23rd, at 1
:
30 p.m.,
followed by a committal service at 3:00 p.m. at the Idaho State Veterans
Cemetery.
