Sophia
(Sue) Rogge Pickerell, a long-time resident of the Treasure Valley, passed away
peacefully in her sleep Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at the Valley View Retirement
Home. Born December 5, 1917 in Waco, Nebraska,
Sue was raised in York, Nebraska by her parents Nellie and Herman Rogge along
with her 3 sisters Ruth Gettman, Lola Scavola, Viola Cartwright and 2 brothers,
Eugene and Herman Rogge.
Sue lived in the Chicago
area where she served in the Army for 3 years, then turned a shining light on
herself after being asked to model for the Ladies’ Club at the prestigious Drake
Hotel in Chicago. Sue loved a good story
or joke, and she could often be found following her favorite pastimes of
bowling & dancing with her husband Grover Pickerell, and reading a good
book. Sue lived life on her own terms
with determination and independence, and her adventurous spirit came out with
her frequent trips to Jackpot where she actually won a new car.
Sue was preceded in death
by her parents Nellie and Herman Rogge, her sisters Ruth and Viola, her
brothers Eugene and Herman and her late husband Grover Pickerell. Sue is survived by her sister Lola Scavola
along with numerous nieces, nephews, step children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sue’s family would like to
thank her friends at Valley View Retirement Home and St. Al’s Hospice for their
loving care of Sue in her final days. Services
will be held Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 2:00pm at Alden Waggoner Funeral Home in
Boise.
