Stanley Fred Gilliland, 83, of Boise died Friday. January 27, 2023, after a long illness. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 2, 2023, at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel at 5400 Fairview Avenue in Boise. Interment will be at the Dry Creek Cemetery.
Stanley was born Feb. 18, 1939, in Fayetteville, Arkansas, His parents were Clyde Gilliland and Mary Ellen Henry Gilliland. Stanley’s family moved to Ontario, Oregon, when he was 10 years old. They later settled in Caldwell, Idaho, where he attended public schools. He graduated in 1957 from Caldwell High School, second in his class (salutatorian) in grade point average. He later attended the College of Idaho.
Stanley lived the rest of his life in Boise and took care of his parents as they grew elderly. He also lived for several years in Touchet, Washington. Over the years, he worked for the U.S. Forest Service and Northrup King Seed Company.
He was a quiet man who enjoyed many hobbies. He collected antique cars, especially Nash and Metropolitans. He also had a collection of antique tools. He enjoyed for a number of years racing motorcycles on obstacle courses. He also had an extensive collection of bicycles which he enjoyed riding until recent years. He dearly loved his dogs. He enjoyed garage and secondhand sales and participated in flea market sales with his parents.
He is survived by his sister, Phyliss Gilliland of Junction City, Oregon, and brother, Jerry Gilliland and spouse Leslie of Olympia, Washington, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Mary Ellen Gilliland.
