Theda Laverne Smallwood

Theda Laverne Smallwood

Our beautiful Mom, Theda Laverne Smallwood, passed away early in the morning of August 14, 2013 at Boise’s St. Luke’s Hospital surrounded by 3 of her children.  As a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend, she was the standard by which all should aspire to live.  She was God centered, selfless, never judgmental, a servant by nature and full of love for all who were fortunate enough to know her.  She was a strong, yet gentle soul who cared deeply and beyond comprehension.  She has been a long-time member of Boise’s Whitney Baptist Church, wo rshiping and serving faithfully.

Born November 2, 1928 to the late Wilbur Leroy and Ethel Virginia Morrison, Theda is survived by three children; daughter Tana Hartmann (husband Steve Hartmann), son Kelly Smallwood (wife Cari Smallwood), daughter Sunny Smallwood; brother Wilbur L. Morrison Jr. (wife Betty Morrison); daughter-in-law Janet Smallwood; eight grandchildren, Prairie Smallwood, Taylor Smallwood, Joel Hartmann, Mahli Hartmann, Zachary Smallwood, Keshia Smallwood, Sawyer Smallwood and Kolby Smallwood; four great grandchildren, Bailee Hartmann, Emalee Hartmann, Braydon Crosby and Devi Huamancha; Nephew Jim Welch, Niece Carol Smallwood Diomalik and Niece Sherline Welch.

Theda was preceded in death by her husband L. Hershel Smallwood; oldest son Ray Craig Smallwood; parents Wilbur Leroy and Ethel Virginia Morrison; grandson Joshua Smallwood.
Theda was married November 9, 1946 to Hershel Smallwood, enjoying 52 loving and adventurous years together.  While traveling for Hershel’s work through the years, Theda was a homemaker.  She was the driving force behind our family’s spiritual centeredness and the glue that bonded our family closely.  First one up each morning and last to bed each night, she made each one feel their life and endeavors were the most important.  Finding a church in each new city was always her priority.  Her network of friends extends nationwide, depending on each other faithfully through the years for guidance, laughter and loyal support through life’s celebrations and trials

We will celebrate her life starting with a viewing Sunday August 18 th from 4pm-6pm at Alden Waggoner Funeral Chapel.  Her Funeral Service will be Monday August 19,  1pm at Whitney Baptist Church, 2309 Dorian Street, Boise, Idaho 83705.  A Graveside Service will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery, 9600 Hill Road, Boise, Idaho 83703.  She will be laid to rest next to her husband L. Hershel Smallwood where their “Walk with God Continues.”
