Thomas R. Strayer, 87, of Boise, passed away on Friday, Jan.
6, 2012 in a local hospital. A viewing will be held today, Tuesday, Jan. 10,
2012, from 4-7 p.m., at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise. A funeral service
will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Alden-Waggoner with
Pastor Tim Bridgewater, from Park Center Assembly officiating. A graveside
service will follow at 1 p.m., at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery, Boise.
Thomas R. Strayer, was born on May 9, 1924 to LeRoy and Juanita
Strayer, in Des Moines, Iowa. Tom married Katherine (Kay) Marturello on Aug.
15, 1942 in Princeton, Missouri. After they got married, Tom enlisted in the US
Navy and served in WWII. He served for over 32 years in the Navy culminating
with his retirement from the service. They lived in Des Moines, and moved to
Boise in 1957. Tom was employed with Sears and then Northwest Heating. Tom and
Kay were married for 69 years.
Tom is survived by his wife Kay Strayer of Boise; daughters,
Jaunita Bernard of St. Paul, MN, Marie Bishop (Jack) of Cordova, TN, and Cindy
Berry of Mountain Home, ID; one son, Thomas Strayer (Jacquelyn) of Bend, OR;
eleven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Roselynn;
brothers, George and LeRoy; one grandson; and one great-grandson.
