Tresa Newman, age 87, died September 24, 2022 at home surrounded by family. Tresa was born in Roseburg, Oregon, the oldest child of three, to George and Rose Barr.
Mom attended high school in Medford, Oregon and went on to community college in Ashland, Oregon receiving an Associates degree in English.
On August 20, 1954, Mom married Earle “Swede” Newman. Mom and dad had four children. They later divorced although mom never remarried and always referred to dad as “my husband”. The love endured although the marriage did not.
Mom went to work for the State of Idaho in 1965, which began a successful 32 year career within the Department of Health and Welfare. Upon her retirement she held the position of Medicaid Bureau Chief.
Mom was able to travel to New York City to experience theater on Broadway. Mom also had season tickets to the Morrison Center in Boise. She was able to see The Phantom of the Opera, The Lion King, and Cats among many others.
Mom was an avid reader, gardener, loved music and most of all her family.
Mom loved any gathering where her family was with her interacting. Sometimes you would see her just watching and observing us with such pride. Christmas Eve at Grammies’ has sparked traditions which are being carried on with her grandchildren - she viewed this as a great compliment.
Mom was the most intelligent woman I have ever known. She was always there to listen and provide advice even if we did not like the advice. Her love for her family far out weighed every other amazing accomplishment she achieved.
Mom is preceded in death by her parents George and Rose Barr, her husband Swede Newman, her granddaughter Amanda Newman. Mom is survived by her son Kelly (Debbie) Newman and her daughters Tammie Newman, Karen Newman Rozendahl, Connie (Boyd) Phillips, her sister Debbie (Nelson) Gibson, her brother Dennis Barr, 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
