Velma Lucile Hyder
Six
1924 – 2011
After two years of being cared for at the home of her
daughter and son-in-law, Sandi and Jim Mick, our mother, Velma, age 87, passed
away peacefully on December 3, 2011, at Life Care Center of Treasure
Valley.
Velma was born in Buhl, Idaho to Abraham and Minerva Hyder.
She graduated from Buhl High in 1941.
After WWII began, she moved to Vancouver, WA,
and started working at the Kaiser Shipworks where they built aircraft
carriers.
After the war, she moved to Boise, where she met
Daniel Six.
They were married at the First Baptist
Church in Boise in 1949, and remained members there for
the rest of their lives.
Velma was an
active church member, helping with Sunday school, wedding receptions, bible
school, and music.
She sang in the
Cathedral Choir and worked as the church’s financial secretary for many years.
She was a loving
mother and wife, and she and Dan raised four children. They enjoyed spending
time outdoors in the beautiful Idaho
mountains, and at her favorite place, the Oregon coast.
Velma enjoyed music, needlepoint, crocheting
and especially, coffee with friends.
She is survived by three of her children:
Gary (Linda) Six of Boise; Sandi (Jim) Mick
of Boise; Gayle Six and her daughter, Makayla, and dear friend, Julie Webb and
her son, Jesse of Salt Lake City; and three brothers, Norman, Donald and
Laurence Hyder.
She was preceded in
death by her husband, son David, brothers Chirchell, Chester and Victor Hyder,
and sister, Verna Sanders.
We will miss
our dear mother, but know that God had a special place waiting just for
her.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 10th at
11:00 a.m. at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, 5400 Fairview Ave., followed by
burial at Morris Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers,
donations can be made in Velma's honor to the Boise First Baptist Church, Idaho
Food Bank or The Boise Little Theatre.
