Vendla Ingrid Nelson, 84, of Kuna and
Nampa, Idaho joined her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for eternity May 29,
2012, at St. Luke's Hospital in Meridian. The seventh of eight children, she
was born November 1, 1927 to Nels Eric Edstrom Nelson and Bertha Zuella Smith
Nelson in Baker, North Dakota.
Growing up during the depression era
in the hard hit “dust bowl," Vendla worked hard helping the family survive
these tough times. She did find time to be in 4-H, memorize countless poems and
learn to do exquisite “handiwork.”
The family moved to Salmon, Idaho to
be with relatives in 1943 after her father was killed in a horse accident. She graduated from Salmon High School at the
age of 16. As World War II had started
she joined the Women's Air Corps becoming a registered nurse through St. Luke's
nursing program. After her discharge in 1948, Vendla worked in hospitals and
doctors’ offices in Salmon, Moscow, Idaho Falls and Boise. She retired in 1988
after 20 years of nursing at the Veterans Hospital in Boise.
Vendla spent her years caring for
others, nursing them back to health or helping them through the end of life.
Her home was a fantasy land for the children she loved. She loved gardening, growing the most
beautiful flowers around. Reading was a passion of hers, hence, the hundreds of
books in her library.
She was
preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Grant, Nels, Bob and Bill Nelson; sister,
Almira Capps; two sisters-in-law, Betty Nelson and Ione Nelson; several nieces
and nephews. Surviving are two sisters,
Mertia Kohl and Mescal Kistler; two sisters-in-law, Lois Nelson and Mary
“Patsy” Nelson; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In
lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Idaho Youth Ranch or the Boise
Rescue Mission.
Celebration of
her life will be

June 8, 2:00 p.m.
at the
Ten Mile Community Church,
4440
E. Columbia Rd, Meridian, ID, 83642, with Pastor Dan Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in the Kuna Cemetery.
