Victor L. Whetzel, 107, of Boise, died Saturday, March 26, 2016, in a local care facility. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 9, 2016 at the Garden Plaza at Valley View, 1130 N. Allumbaugh St., Boise, Idaho, 83704.
Victor was born on December 21, 1908 in Winona, WA, the son of Juanita Beber and Frank P. Whetzel. He grew up in Washington, graduating from high school there and furthered his education at Roger Babson Institute and Harvard Business School. Victor married Dorothy Elliott in Bend, Oregon in 1928. In 1991, he married Susan Koontz in Boise, Idaho. She died in 1999. Victor married Marjie Locklear in 2000.
In addition to Washington, New York and New England, Victor lived in various places in Oregon, including Bend, Grants Pass, Portland and Medford, and also Danville-Los Altos, CA before settling in Idaho. He worked for J C Penney Company for 35 years.
Victor enjoyed fishing, gardening and traveling, but for a purpose not just for pleasure as a tourist.
For 15 years, he was very involved in Foreign Missions, traveling various areas of the world for O. C. International. He taught Bible, mainly Old Testament Archaeology (focusing on Israel and the Middle East).
Victor was a member of various churches including Baptist, Presbyterian and Independent. He was the past president of Kiwanis and was also a Rotarian. He also belonged to various Chambers of Commerce, Gideons, Christian Business Men’s Committee, and Overseas Ambassadors.
Survivors include his son, Ronald Whetzel (Sharon), Boise; ID; granddaughter, Kim (Bret) Pattan, Horseshoe Bend, ID; grandson, Ronald V. (Deanna) Whetzel Jr., Nampa, ID; great-grands, Jana and Aaron; grandson, Aaron (Fallon) Whetzel; great-grands, Luke and Allison; granddaughter, Jana (Landon) Grindheim; great-grands, Ezra and Kai; sister, Mary Wohlgemuth, Portland, OR; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wives, Dorothy, Susan and Marjorie, and six siblings.
