Husband, Dad, brother, Grandpa, GGPa, Uncle, friend, Joe
Helterbran arrived on this earth October 6, 1919 in Kalous, Colorado and was
promptly cradled in a dresser drawer by his parents Blanche and Rex. He grew up helping his siblings, Lucille,
Verle, Inez and Wayne, herd sheep and farm in the northeast corner of Colorado,
near the small town of Keota. He was
drafted during his freshman year at Colorado State College in Greely and served
in the South Pacific during World War II.
Ultimately he was sent to Fort Lewis, Washington where he met the love
of his life, Eunice Condit. They married
in November of 1945, moved back to Greely and eventually moved on to San
Francisco, California. He was Daddy to
two daughters, Gloria and Penny raised in San Francisco and San Mateo,
California. Thirty years of his life
were devoted to managing service stations for Standard Oil and serving his
church. After retiring in 1977, he and
Eunice relocated to Gooding, Idaho.
Fishing, travel, pinochle, camping, croquet, mowing his pristine acre of
grass and being grandpa kept him busy.
Boise became home in 1992 and there he became GGPa remaining active with
his church, family and friends. He and
Eunice celebrated 65 years of marriage in November of 2010. Joe passed away on October 1, 2011 just short
of his 92
nd
birthday. He is
survived by his wife Eunice, daughters Gloria and Penny, grandchildren Jamie
Moore, Craig Rasmussen, Micah Hammac and Seth Hammac, four great grandsons,
sister Inez Burke and lots of loved nieces and nephews. Joe’s life will be celebrated at the
Community of Christ Church, 408 N. Garden Street, Boise on Saturday, November
12, 1pm. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family request
