Virginia L. Walstra, 99, of Boise, died Friday, March 4, 2016 in a Boise care facility.

Private inurnment will be held in Morris Hill Cemetery under the direction of the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel and Crematory.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Virginia was born to Paul and Gertrude Peters on September 19 , 1916 in Boise , Idaho. She graduated from Boise High School in 1934 and at t ended Mills College in Oakland, CA for one year and then the University of Id a ho. She was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. After graduation she worked for Idaho Po w er . She met her husband Walter G. Walstra through a cousin Sall y and Eldon Leightner . She played tennis all summer w ith Walter and they w ere married on Sept . 11 , 1937. Walter was an electrical engineer for Idaho Power and they lived for twent y years at Twin Falls and then transferred to Pocatello for five years before moving back to Boise . Walter was the Division Superintendent for Idaho Power until he retired.

After their three daughters graduated from school , Walter a n d Virginia spent ten years tra v eling all over the world including such countries as Turkey , Ireland, Israel, Greece , Italy , France , Germany , Spain , Scotland , Wales , Alaska, Canada , Australia , and New Zealand which was her favorite . Riding the Eurorail in Europe and the train across Canada brought her great joy. She was a proud member of the Kiwanis and the Happy Hoo f ers. Virginia volunteered at St . Alphonsus, her church, Collister School, and the 4 - H . She was a member of St . Mary's Church for many years and then St . Mark's during her time at Valley View. Her favorite p as ti mes were walking in her neighborhood on Sycamore D r . , play i ng b r idge w i th friends, and r eading avidly until her late years when she became legally blind .


Her husband , Walter , a brother , Colonel Ralph Peters , and a grandchild, Paul, preceded her in death . She is sur v ived by three daughters, Anne Murdock (Lee) of Fulsom Dam , CA, Judy Flanegan (Ed) of Biloxi , MS, and Pam Faino ( Callan) of Winston-Salem, NC, three grandchildren , and three great grandchildren .
