Virginia Marlene Schimmel, 77, of
Boise, died December 16, 2013 at home.
Funeral services will be held at
11:00 a.m., Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel. A viewing will be held at the funeral home on
Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A reception will be held at Whitney Methodist
Church following the funeral.
Marlene
was born May 23, 1936 in Corwith, Iowa to Wilbur and Jessie (Gourley) Shipman. Marlene attended school in Corwith and graduated
from Corwith High School. She married
Gerald D. Schimmel on April 12, 1958 in Mason City, Iowa. Together they lived in many places including Des
Moines, Iowa, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Boise,
Idaho. During her life, Marlene was
employed by Willishaw and Idaho State Health and Welfare’s accounting
department, where she retired in 2007.
Marlene’s hobbies included fishing, gardening, and
floating the Boise River. She also
enjoyed watching football and basketball games with her husband or anyone else
for that matter. Marlene had a great
sense of humor and brought joy and laughter to those who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Gerald D. Schimmel
of Boise; daughter, Kimberly K. Schimmel of Boise; son, James D. Schimmel of
California; grandson, Jeremiah L. (Janet Poi) Schimmel; grandson, Jason T.
(Yvonne Vaughan) Dunbar; great-grandchildren, Jace, Serenity, Jena Rose, Lillia
and Joelle; sister, Sandra Ricarrdi of Arizona; brother, Bob Shipman of Iowa
and many nieces and nephews.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur
and Jessie (Gourley) Shipman; brothers, Kenneth, Carroll, Gene, Jack, Marvin, Bill,
Richard, David and her sister Deloris.
Marlene was a kind and loving woman.
She will be greatly missed and will always
remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
