William “Bill” Lewis Harro, 77, passed away on November 4, 2024 from complications of surgery. Bill was born on February 25, 1947 to Rev. Lewis M. Harro and Mary E. Harro in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Bill was the first born of his siblings and named after his uncle, Sgt. William Paul Harro, who died behind enemy lines in Europe during WWII. Bill grew up in Sandpoint, Idaho and Helena, Montana where he graduated from Helena High in 1965.
In the summer of 1965, he began his career in fire fighting with the US Forest Service. From 1968-1969 he trained and smokejumped out of McCall, Idaho and from 1970-1976 out of Fairbanks, Alaska. Later, he moved to Boise and began house painting/ home repairs for employment. He also worked for Associated Dairies around 1977-78, where he met his lifelong companion Teresa. He helped his parents in Boise with their property maintenance and cared for his mother in later years. Bill was a hard worker and perfectionist in all that he did. He was always interested in cars and did most of his own maintenance and repairs. Also, he generously spent time helping other family members with their car repairs.
Bill enjoyed going to Boise State University Bronco basketball and football games. He met regularly each month with his smokejumper “Brothers” for coffee and helped plan smokejumper reunions. In past years he enjoyed backpacking with his llamas. Higgins, his Springer Spaniel, was a beloved fur baby and walking companion. Bill attended All Saints Presbyterian Church.
Bill is survived by Teresa Ceniga, his sister Elizabeth Fritsch, and his brothers John Harro and James Harro.
