William (Bill) Max Phillips, Jr

William (Bill) Max Phillips, Jr came into this world on December 9, 1967 in Los Angeles, California and left us on September 13, 2015. He leaves behind a loving wife Brandee, a beautiful daughter Alexee, his mother (Rora) and dad (Phillip), sister (Marlo) and brother in law Kevin, Aunt Becky, Aunt Rhonda and Uncle Joe, Aunt Shannon and Uncle Lee and Uncle Rod and Aunt Laurie. He was preceded in death by his father, a brother and grandparents.

Bill moved to Idaho City on June 16, 1975 with his Mom & family.  He started Basin Elementary in the 2 nd grade that year, graduated from the 8 th grade in 1982 as one of the class speakers.  He then enjoyed his many 6:00 a.m. bus rides to the valley to attend North Jr High and Boise High School, graduating in 1986.  After High School, Bill served in the Marines.  Upon returning home he attended Boise State University and obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Education.  He then joined Basin School District in 1995, where he taught and coached for the next 20 years.

Bill was also served as a class advisor, National Honor Society advisor, Idaho City Historical Foundation Vice-President, Idaho City University Head Basketball Coach and Idaho City Community Softball co-coordinator.

Bill’s love of history was apparent through the enthusiasm of his students, present and former. He coached all levels track, basketball and volleyball.  He also enjoyed officiating both Middle School basketball and volleyball games.  His message to his student athletes included “take your skills and apply them to real life” and “don’t be afraid of success”.

Bill’s other hobbies included cross country skiing, boating, playing basketball and softball and of course watching his beloved LAKERS (win or lose).

Our Community has lost a great family member, teacher, coach and friend.
