Cpl. William Byron Johnson USMC, 92, of Boise, died peacefully
at home on Thursday, August 22, 2013.
A
graveside service with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday,
September 3, 2013 at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.
A viewing will be held at Alden-Waggoner
Funeral Chapel from 5 - 8 p.m. on Monday, September 2, 2013.
William Johnson was born on October 1, 1920 in
Oakley, Idaho to William Lucian Johnson and Alma Florence Galloway Carter. During WWII, William fought in Guadalcanal. He worked for Greyhound Bus Lines for 40 years
until retirement. He married Mary E.
Dahl on January 26, 2008 in Boise Idaho.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing and other outdoor sports. He was an avid Boise State football fan. In his younger years, he played the trombone
with a local band. He had a special
interest in USMC World War II history.
William was a member of the VFW, Marine Corps League and numerous other
groups.
He is survived by his wife Mary; three sons, Ronald
Byron (Mary Jane) Johnson, Dwight Richard (Debbie) Johnson, William Dennis
"Bill" (Anne) Johnson; daughter Lana Gabriel and granddaughter
Desiree; two great-granddaughters, Maddie and Brooke; and numerous
grandchildren and great-grandchildren; stepson, Guy (Colleen) Fleenor; grandsons,
Clint Fleenor, David (Heather) Fleenor and Tim (Beckie) Fleenor; three sisters,
Alberta Brown, Virginia Smith, and Sharon (Bentley) Natanson. William was preceded in death by his parents, sister Lois Strong and his children's mother Dorothy Johnson.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to US
Marine Corps League, VFW, Love Inc., or the Boise Rescue Mission.
